The date was 28 October 1996. It was the beginning of a new union, the Amalgamated Union of Statutory Board Employees (AUSBE). AUSBE was the joint effort of three statutory boards: the Land Transport Authority (LTA), the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) and the National Library Board (NLB). AUSBE was inaugurated on 9 July 1997.
